Description

The Shinwa Makaku Katana is a true masterpiece that embodies the essence of traditional Japanese swordcraft, enhanced by meticulous artistry and craftsmanship. Hand-forged from Damascus steel, the 28 1/2” full-tang blade showcases more than 1,000 layers, revealing mesmerizing waves and swirls highlighted by an acid etching that adds dramatic contrast. The handcrafted tsuka is cloaked in genuine black ray skin and wrapped in soft tan ito, secured with traditional wooden mekugi, while the brass menuki adds a classic touch. Inspired by the revered Japanese macaque, the intricately detailed tsuba features two macaques perched in a tree, exuding an enchanting and earthy charm. This katana is designed to be both display-worthy and functional, maintaining Shinwa's renowned standard of quality. The hand-lacquered hardwood saya, polished to a stately gloss and accented with a coordinating tan sageo, complements the blade's elegance. Great purchase

Bought these on a BOGO for my son, he LOVES them. Nicely packaged, weighted and detail. Wrap looks more like cotton shoelace than "ray" skin, but overall great quality, feels very sturdy. I would recommend for beginners and for form practice and competition. Can't say yet how they hold up in sparring.

Great sword for the price

This is a great katana for the price. Since it’s only $70, don’t expect high end quality and nitpick every little thing. There were some little things wrong with the sword obviously but the katana fittings were tight and feels pretty solid in your hands. A great buy to have a blade that looks pretty cool!

Wow

Honestly, I love this blade and would argue it’s handling is damn near on par with my 800$ musashi. Sure the carbon content and alloy are different, but it can handle light abuse expected of it ( not going after bone with this guy, Which is abusive to even the higher carbon stuff ). Handling wise I’m impressed especially for the price It was even well sharpened ! Jarret Black snake forge
