Amazing blade

I started collecting knives about a year ago after I started collecting Katanas about two years ago. Basically I wanted to try to get at least one of every different basic kind of knife. I bought a bowie, a kukri, a dagger, a small folder and now this. I was looking for something with this design but when I got it in the mail, I was amazed. The fit and finish is absolutely out of this world. Perfect. And, it was razor sharp out of the box. I was only surprised by the fact that it was larger than I envisioned and, or course, a little heavier but this blade is absolutely gorgeous and highly recommended. The mirror finish is simply beautiful. I almost hate to cut anything with it but paper to remind me just how sharp it is.

Could Not be More Impressed

This is the Best Blade I have ever owned! I was expecting a good knife when I ordered this, and was Super Impressed when it arrived. Very Sturdy, Very Good Looking and Sharp as a razor! My wife looked at it and her finger prints were on the blade when she handed it back, Yes I did, I went to wipe her prints off on my sleeve and sliced thru everything, including the first couple of layers of my arm. I " Thought" I was careful with sharp knives, I just was not expecting this blade to be razor sharp. The Stainless Steel blade is mirror shine! Rock Solid from top to tip. I would give this knife a 6 Star rating if possible. The discounted price makes this a bargain. Everybody that sees this blade is impressed. I, of course, give stern warnings about how sharp the blade is. I had some etching done and that also looks great. Like I said earlier, 6 Star transaction!! RH

Nice and Deadly

One of my friends/weapon buddies saw these and bought two... as he often says, if one is good, two is mo better... anyway I noticed them hanging on his pack and asked about them... got to playing with it and, sucker that I am for bowies, toothpicks, daggers and assorted stickers and slashers, asked him if he was interested in selling me one of them... he considered it for a couple weeks and then let me have one for the money he had in it. This thing is truly a short sword but certainly in line with some of the early bowies. My buddy is anal about maintaining a sharp edge on every knife he owns, so it came to me super-sharp, and with a sharpened back-edge too. Dunno how well it will keep an edge but it certainly TAKES an edge! The blade is designed more as a sticker rather than a slasher but the sheer size and mass of this thing would deliver a mean cut... Like a katana, it isnt really meant for playin around with but I'd like to try it out on some hangin meat, like a pig or deer, just to see...

Now THAT’S a knife!

Such a nice knife! Long and heavy blade, which came shaving sharp right out of the box. I cut my finger down to the bone running my finger lightly down the edge, doubting it’s sharpness, so be careful. The brass spine looks quite nice. The leather sheath is well-made, but fits a little too tightly. I’m sure that this will resolve itself over time, though. My only complaint worth mentioning is that (even with my above average-sized hands) the grip feels like grabbing a 2x4. It is not the end of the world, since I can always sand it down to a more comfortable shape and re-finish it, but it is worth noting for anybody with small to medium hands. Overall, I am still extremely happy with my purchase, and it will adorn my hip for the foreseeable future.

Wow beautiful

This is another one of Gil's blades for my collection. Beautiful construction massive and so sharp it can cut paper like a safety blade. Nice sheath , too nice of a knife to take on a camping trip...but would hold up nicely as it's a beast. The handle perfectly carved and fits well even in my average hands. Great value and identical to the expendable version minus the logo.

Beautiful knife

I purchased this more out of curiosity than anything else, and I can say I'm quite happy with this knife. I cannot say how strong the tang is because I haven't attempted to see how it's fastened in the handle or how far in it goes, but as a cutting and stabbing tool this thing would be devastating. I'm usually more about function than fashion but this one wooed me. I have to admit that I like showing it off.

Its a beaut clark!

I just purchased this with the 30% off code. Wow! What a deal. I do not purchase Hibben knives for functionality due to the materials. Not that they are not capable, but the steels are not ideal. Leave that to the Ontario knives, condors, etc. The Hibben family produces beautiful knives. This one may be functional, but it is far too pretty for me to cut anything more than soft targets... like a steak. If you enjoy top notch craftsmanship and design this is a very nice piece to add to your collection.

Used it in the real world

This is my second review of the Gil Hibben Old West Toothpick! I received this knife a Monday morning and left for my cabin in the north woods of Michigan on Wednesday morning, taking the Toothpick with me! I thought I would play with it a little out in the woods. My wife laughed at me when I hung the HUGE knife on my belt. The Hibben was hanging just behind my S&W .357 on my right hip. I headed out to the back side of my place taking my 3 German Shepherds with me. Just as I could see the property line I saw something move in the underbrush. A full grown coyote came out on to the path in front of me. The dogs started for the snarling coyote. Then panic set in the coyote was foaming at the mouth. My dog lunged toward it, I screamed calling them back! My Shepherds are like family to me, the last thing I wanted was for them to tangle with a rabid animal! My hand went to my gun but I realized the dogs were too close, I might hit one of them. I yanked the big knife out of the sheath and went at the "yote" without thinking. My first slash missed, I turned my wrist and reversed the next slash. The second slash made contact just below the animals left ear, partially severing the neck. My dogs were so close by this time I couldn't get off another slash. A single downward thrust through the rib cage ended the situation. I ran the 1/4 mile back to the cabin to get the rabies tainted blood off my hands. As I was running back the thought went through my mind that without the Toothpick this could have and most likely would have ended with me or one of my furry buddies being bitten. The dogs wouldn't have tolerated the coyote biting me and would have jumped in the fray. Only 2 more preventative shots left to go! Damn they hurt!
