Great for me to learn how to throw a spear, sharp light and strong. Would make a great tool as well with both tips can be used to spear fish very accurately.

This spear is vastly better than it's price would have you believe. It is superior to the very similar javelin/spear by that other famous discount sword/knife company; better finish and a more useful, blade type head. The synthetic shaft is nicely textured for a good grip, and should prove extremely durable. As other reviewers have noted, the screws are not the ideal way to mount the head and butt spike. I epoxied cut down ring shank nails into the mounting holes, and used epoxy in the sockets for the head and buttspike, for permanent mounting. Balance and handling are excellent for throwing, and both the head and butt spike are very resilient. Highly recommended!

I wrote "a little misleading," actually I misled myself. The spear at $40 is a good bargain. The ad copy is accurate where it claims that the spear "breaks down in three sections that can be assembled in MINUTES" (emphasis added). Minutes is right. I pictured the sections being threaded together with assembly in "seconds" because that's what I wanted to see. The two end pieces are a loose taper fit that must be secured by a pair of tiny screws (furnished with two spares) at each end - like an inexpensive shovel or spade to a wooden handle. The video and still photos carefully avoid showing this. So the screws are the weak point, breaking, working loose or being lost in any fashion. Develop a secure means of carrying the screws plus extras with an appropriate screwdriver, maybe some Loctite, and you should be good for occasional use. The materials are good, my blade arrived sharp with a good piercing point, the tail end is a sharp, useful spike but a rubber tip or cork would be handy as a guard until needed. The sheath is more than adequate but could use a convenience loop or lanyard to avoid losing it while it's off the spear in the field. It's unlikely to stand up to repeated throwing - check the screws after you become familiar with throwing it. Assembled it can be an excellent standoff weapon for things like hogs or unpleasant two-legged critters. I find it pretty intimidating. But as a hunting tool I see it in the survival/emergency role as the name suggests.

This thing is very sturdy for the price. I bought one of these originally on the "steal price" to see what I was going to get. Not let down one bit. I wanna go out throwing haha

I practiced with this for a while this weekend and can say that it will take a beating and keep on ticking. I like that is comes in three parts and I can take it apart to carry in my bug out bag, but it's really sturdy when put back together. I threw this thing until I couldn't throw it anymore at a live oak tree and the point never bent! It stuck hard and stayed sharp. The SK5 really stood up to the challenge. It is definitely designed to throw unlike the M48 Talon spear. Get this awesome spear, you will not regret it.
