Description
The company Art Gladius, S.A. was founded in 1986 in Toledo, Spain. Since then, the company has been designing and manufacturing swords, daggers and other historical replicas based on museum originals and their own original designs. They produce historic replicas of the highest quality, mainly for decorative purposes. The Shimazu family was founded in the late 12th century by Shimazu Tadahisa, who adopted the surname of Shimazu after he was appointed governor of the southern portion of Kyushu. By the 16th century the Shimazu had become the major power in southwestern Japan, and they also controlled most of the island of Kyushu. Art Gladius has crafted a fine reproduction katana that pays tribute to the legendary Japanese family. The reproduction Japanese sword has a 28 1/2”, unsharpened stainless steel blade with a mirror-polished finish and it extends from a brass habaki. It has a red lacquered wooden handle with brass finished metal accents, including an intricate, brass finished Samurai-themed tsuba and pommel. The scabbard is black lacquered wood with a red crackle finish with leather and cord-wrap accents, and it hides an 8 1/4” dagger. The high-quality reproduction katana is 38 3/4” in overall length and can be displayed on the included black, wooden stand.
